I've started to see some Bible verses in a different light since leaving the dubs, one example:
ECCLESIASTES 12:12
As regards anything besides these, my son, take a warning: To the making of many books there is no end, and much devotion [to them] is wearisome to the flesh.
I now see this applies to the Witnoids, not as they apply it to all other literature - of which they are happy to quote in their publications!

what has been your experience with love bombing (that is the practice of showering attention upon newcomers until they are part of the org)?

In what way are JWs instructed to love bomb? Can you give examples.
It was given at meetings, talks from the platform. We were told that as the true religion we had the mark of love that no other faith had. And that we should welcome any interested/new ones that attended. We were to try and arrange to bring them to the hall ourselves, to invite them to social gatherings or our homes etc. This was a theme that was discussed frequently over the years. As usual its the R & F that put these suggestions into practice, because it seems the right thing to do. In reality the idea of being welcoming new people is a great idea, but do we need to be told to do it, in order to fulfill a particular scripture? Only to let it fade once the person is in becuae we didnt choose them as close friends, then how genuine was it really? CS 101
the wedding has arrived, i've been maintaining a stance of not attending, but this last week had a slight change of heart and thought i might attend afterall.
i thought it would be a good chance to hold my head up and show i've got a life.
after some further thought and talking to my sister, i've decided to not attend.
Thanks Gill, I dont really see it as they are ruling my life, i've made a choice not to attend the ceremony and it feels good to be the one making that choice, sure its because of the dub mindset that as a family member i'm not invited to the reception, where as the grooms 'worldly' relatives are, but I feel liberated to be beyond that mindset myself, whilst remembering what it was like to be in it. Also my sister and me are both ok with it, under those current circumstances, which I recon is a better way to show i'm not bitter and evil as someone who is an ex jw. Maybe it will make her and my jw mother think about things?

In a sense I feel it happens in other situations apart from the dubs, for instance at work if someone new comes on board I tend to welcome them, or a new poster comes here, we all welcome them. I guess the difference is that, they are specifically instructed to do it, and its almost trying to create a rather false over the top amount of love, to prove the dubs are the true religion, in other words its a conditioned behaviour. I have to admit I used to do it.

i saw some witnoids i know from my former congregation, recruiting across the road from me yesterday.
i was hoping they would call on me as i'd like to ask a few questions.
firstly i wanted to ask them why historians say the destruction of jerusalem was in 587/586, where as only the dubs say its 607?

I guess thats true, but I just want to get them thinking. This happened to me as a young dub, and someone asked why god's name was inserted into the NT? I thought it was just in there, but learned that no it wasnt, got me thinking that did. Another time at a study I conducted with someone, we were discussing the account of Noah, and the man asked how did the animals return to the various continents, again i went away to find the society's answer, which was frankly pathetic, and again it got me thinking. Of course it was years later that I left, with serious doubts, but these were all steps along that path for me.

i am currently an agnostic, i am suffering from depression because i cant seem to know or realize if this "jehovah's witness religion" is really true..i mean what is so true about it.
im only 17 years old and i feel that i need to find my religion.
right now im currently dating a wiccan.
I agree that you should investigate something first before you jump in because of an emotional response. Deal with your depresion first and then move on in your spiritual journey if need be. It seems to me you have some issue's with the JW's, so learn all you can about that, in order to have knowledge, this can really help to make some sense of it. Many people come out of the Witnesses and need something to replace that loss, but I would say its good to come to terms with that first before you move foward again. Above all do what is right for you not what me or any other poster thinks is the right path. There are quite a few here that have a varied experience in all faiths/belief's and would be more than happy to help you find out about whats out there.
edited to add: oh and welcome to the board!

Her and me are quite cool about it, she knows its not because i'm angry at not being invited to the reception, and I know she's not inviting me for any other reason than i'm DF. But ultimately I decided that i'm not invited, i have nothing to prove or justify to the judgemental witnoids, and can do something more productive on the day - for me. I would have gladly attended should she have wanted me to come, but due to the circumstance, this is not the case. Dont get me wrong i've said my bit about the rules of the society influencing the personal lives of a family, but i've come to my choice on the matter in a calm and thoughtful manor and feel ok about it. I sent the couple a card expressing my wishes for the day and life ahead.
Its Friday, the weekend is upon us, all have a good one, take care

Assuming they say that its cause it fits bible prophesy, I wanted to ask how come they used to say it was in 606? Assuming they say its because when that was said they didnt realise there was no year zero, I wanted to ask how come they didnt change the prophetic date (1914) and changed the historic date by one year?
But alas they didnt turn up so it will have to wait for another time.

i know it has been talked about before, but does anyone have information as to when jw started banning beards.
my wife is telling me that it started in the 60/70's because of the hippies, but i know i read somewhere on here that it was much earlier.. .
I think this comes under an oral law in the tradition of men (pharisees), although no action can be taken, council is often given to check on the standing of the brother who grew the beard, and indeed it can affect his 'priviledges' in the congo. It is usually something up held by the local congregation members, comments you hear and such like. In my hall one or two had beards over the years including myself, but were never used. One teenage lad an MS grew a goatee, and was to do an Assembly part, and was asked to shave it off which he promptly did.
